Gauteng road safety campaign nabbed 6 drunken drivers over the weekend in Soweto alone. In another roadblock on the N12 West 246 vehicles were inspected, 3 were discontinued. 78 summons were issued for violation road traffic regulations. 116 vehicles and 273 people were searched.

Festive season campaign yielding results
As part of the festive season campaign Gauteng traffic police today were testing buses for roadworthiness in Laanglagte testing station. A total of 44 long distance buses were tested and 11 failed the test. In anther operation at Kempton Park 145 minibuses were found to be unroadworthy, 20 summons issued on various offences,1 stolen laptop and 1 copper were recovered

The Gauteng Traffic Police today impounded 31 taxis operating without documents, no permits nor even in possession of receipts as proof that they have applied for operating licenses. Two taxi ranks were inspected, Faraday and Noord. Read more

Sting operation nets un-roadworthy buses
Gauteng Traffic Police removed 25 out of 30 buses screened thus far in an ongoing operation.

MEC Mosunkutu vows to get mall robbers arrested soon
MEC Khabisi Mosunkutu has vowed to get the group of gangsters responsible for the spade of business robberies arrested soon.
Mr Mosunkutu issued this warning after discussions with senior personnel of the South African Police Services (SAPS). Intelligence gathered around the recent heist at the Trade Route Mall, in Lenasia, shows that the band of crooks behind this heist has been involved in similar attacks previously. Members of the SAPS already have information about this group of approximately eight (8) heavily armed crooks.

GAUTENG TRAFFIC POLICE RECOVERS A HIJACKED TRUCK AND NABBES 43 MOTORISTS FOR TRAFFIC VIOLATION

The Anti-hijack unit of the Gauteng Traffic Police in the Department of Community Safety today recovered a hijacked Frontliner truck in Diepkloof, with a consignment of cement tiles worth R46 000 still intact. The driver was attacked by three armed men who forced him to drive the vehicle from Alrode to Diepkloof where the truck was recovered. The suspects were arrested and will appear at the Orlando Magistrate court soon, facing charges of armed robbery and hijacking. Read more

A 37-year-old female official stationed at the Lanlaagte Vehicle Testing Centre was arrested on Monday, 23 March 2009, for alleged involvement in issuing of fraudulent Public Drivers Permit.The issued document (PDP) does not appear on the E-NATIS System and no application file was found during the audit.
