Two learner and driver contact centre officials suspended for alleged fraud and corruption

The Department of Community Safety in Gauteng yesterday suspended two officials on alleged suspicion of conspiring with certain driving schools to extort money from citizens in return for ‘assistance' in obtaining license testing slots.

The arrests follows a tip off after the launch of a ‘Whistle Blowers' campaign in September 2008.

Investigations are continuing, if found guilty, criminal charges will be laid against all implicated in the scam.

The department urges members of the public to assist government in rooting out fraud and corruption involving learners and drivers license bookings and testing by contacting 0800 212 672.
