Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, Firoz Cachalia, will tomorrow officially open the Honeydew Police Community Service Centre.
13 November 2008
The objective of this initiative is to create a partnership between the South African Police Services (SAPS), business and the community to achieve a reduction in trio crimes (residential and business robberies, as well as vehicle hijackings). The emphasis is on the prevention of crime, raising public confidence, increase detection, arrest and prosecution rate while creating a sustainable and replicable model that could be institutionalised by other police stations.
The initiative is in line with the Gauteng Provincial Government priority of reducing violent crime in the province which has seen the Department of Community Safety together with the SAPS developing and implementing the Gauteng Aggravated Robbery strategy (GARS). This strategy is one of the tools utilised to combat trio crimes in the province.
Amongst the key elements of the strategy is the implementation of multi-agency partnerships including promoting partnerships between the SAPS and the private security companies to ensure better cooperation and coordination in various policing precincts.
The event takes place as follows:
Date: Friday, 14 November 2008
Time: 10h00
Venue: Honeydew Police Station (Corner Juice & Beyers Naude Ave) Honeydew
