GAUTENG TRAFFIC POLICE NABBED 21 SUSPECTS AND 28 VEHICLES TAKEN OFF THE ROAD

The Gauteng Traffic Police of the Department of Community Safety arrested 21 suspects for various crimes and about 28 un-roadworthy vehicles were taken off the road during a Joint Operation organised in partnership with the South African Police Service in Soshanguve on Friday, 19 th June 2009.

The Operation was part of the department's programme to combat criminal activities at the identified notorious areas and criminal hot-spots. Of the arrested suspects, 12 paid an admission of guilt fine of R500 each and the rest of the suspects will briefly appear at the Soshanguve magistrate court today, 22 June 2209, facing various charges ranging from driving public transport without drivers' license and Public Driving Permit, forged license discs, drunken driving, reckless driving and possession of unlicensed fire-arm.

In a separate incident, 14 vehicles were impounded for operating without proper permits at OR Tambo Airport.
