Youth Month Draft Programme

The year 2008 marks the thirty second Anniversary of the June 16 uprisings of 1976. It occurs during the era of youth mobilization as part of the social movement against crime under the Take Charge Campaign. The department of Community Safety will highlight the work of the Youth Crime Prevention Desks across the province.

Objectives

The following are the objectives of this Youth Month programme which will integrate the provincial youth safety programmes of the Intergovernmental Youth Forum supported by the Gauteng Youth Commission SAPS, CPF and Youth Desks.

  • To engage young people in youth safety activities in different policing areas.
  • To profile the Youth Crime prevention desks in different municipalities.
  • To launch the Youth Desk instructional DVD
  • To launch the Provincial leadership structure of the youth desk.
  • To popularize the work of the department of Community Safety in promoting Youth Safety across the province.

Detailed schedule for June Month Programme

Here under is a detailed schedule of activities of the June Month Programme

Youth Safety Imbizo : 25 June 2008

The imbizo will also culminate into the unveiling of the Provincial Youth Safety Plan to be implemented in Gauteng.

Road Show on Youth Safety : 14 June 2008

The Road Show will target substance abuse among young people and their involvement in criminal activities. This event will also target an area which will be identified as a hot spot as per the police stats. The area of focus will be one of policing precincts in Ekurhuleni.

Crime Awareness Campaign : 27 June 2008, Vista University , Mamelodi

The department will conduct an anti-crime awareness campaign in Tshwane. The event will be coordinated with Zonder Water Correctional services which will bring inmates to address young people on crime and prison life. The objective of the event will be to change the mindset of young people and interact with offenders who are in the correctional facilities willing to contribute in preventing youth criminality.
